The Nicholson Syrian Girls Higher Secondary School and Training Home was started in 1910 by two British ladies, namely, the late Mrs. F. S. Nicholson and Miss .S. C. McKibbin. The school has the ideal of ‘Public Schools of England’ without the practice of segregation and privilege but with social equality in all possible aspects of living in the boarding and studying in the school. The control is now vested with a Board of Trustees and managed by a Board of Management according to the provisions of the Trust Deed made by the donors. The President of the Board is The Metropolitan of the Mar Thoma Church. Miss M D Ward served as the Manager of the school from 1910 till 1960.

Students are prepared for the Secondary School Leaving Certificate examination and Higher Secondary examination. Besides the school subjects, needle work, arts and crafts, music and dance are also taught. Since 2007 CBSE programme is also launched by the school.

The school is managed by a Board of Management consisting of the Manager, Head of the school, three members elected by the Sabha Prathinidhi Mandalam (General Council of the Church), three members elected by the committee of the Evangelistic Association and three elected by a body of subscribers.

The motto of the school is “MEMBERS ONE OF ANOTHER”. True to this motto, the entire school has to bear the penalty for the wrong doing of one or two of its members. The school has a supplementary motto which is stated as “This is the law of the school that everything about it shall be holy. A few individuals cannot be allowed to mar its beauty and holiness”. The motto engraved in the Chapel is “God forbid that I should boast save to the cross of Jesus Christ”. These three mottos embody the pervading spirit of Nicholson School.
